The Anime You Remember:

Hasbro has taken special care of keeping the feel and style of Sailor Moon and combining it with America’s famous past time monopoly! However Hasbro has replaced the chance and community chest in the middle with “Love” and “Friendship” cards to give a more loving and less hostile playing environment. On your money, you have your favorite characters featured in the center left of the paper which also changes the color scheme of classic monopoly game and Sailor Moon on your 500. You can tell Hasbro really put research, love, and work into this board, the cards, and especially the tokens.

The most unique change about this game board is the players. The players included are Cosmic Heart Compact, Moon Chalice, Spiral Heart Moon Rod, Garnet Orb, Deep Aqua Mirror, and Space Sword in a beautiful token. Something you will also notice about the tokens are how well made they are. Beautifully constructed and great to look at. These tokens were based on the third season of Sailor Moon which has the Outer Scouts talismans also.

“Railroad” Cards:

Railroad cards, are not “railroad” cards but staffs and talismans, Spiral Heart Moon Rod, and Heart Compact. They all have values on the cards including rent and mortgage. In the original Monopoly board game these would be normal railroads but that wouldn’t fit in the cute theme of Sailor Moon.

Love and Friendship Cards:

In the original game of monopoly you would pull a chance card and be greeted with a warm and fuzzy message “Go Directly To Jail. Do not Pass Go. Do not Collect $200.” and we would all laugh together. No? Well that will no longer be an issue with the Sailor Moon monopoly board game. An example of a Love Card “Sailor Moon uses the power of the Moon Chalice to transform into Super Sailor Moon.” Collect $200. That is way more pleasant card to pull than going to jail. ‘

Well there is a lack of actual… property in this board game. What you would actually own is the Scouts and put mortgages on them. Which could be considered a little distasteful. Which brings me to the next point. There is no theme associated with the houses or hotels in the game. You will be playing with default Monopoly houses and hotels which stick out like sore thumbs. The very least it could be pink or maybe even rainbow colored to make it match the rest of the theme of the board.

Well when you open the box and set the board out you may notice right off the bat an overlooked design flaw. The board opens up four way and folds up like a square. This causes wear and tear faster than if the board opened up in the usual one fold. As mentioned before, the houses and hotels are the default monopoly colors which makes them feel like wasted opportunities which the die are normal boring black and white. Another issue you will see pointed out a lot is that the board seems a little uneven compared to other boards. This may not bother you if you do not care about the art too much.

There is more pros about this board than cons. To start off, the art in the middle of the board is absolutely gorgeous. If you don’t think about how you are buying the scouts and putting mortgages on them then their tile art is also extremely beautiful and detailed. Most of the pros about this board is how beautiful it looks and aesthetic to look at, this game does not change the core game of Monopoly. For a fan of Sailor Moon, this board is a 100% must buy even if you are not a dedicated Monopoly player.

Revolutionary to the Monopoly genre?

If you were expecting this to absolutely change the game of monopoly you may be disappointed, if you weren’t. You should be perfectly pleased if you weren’t expecting anything beyond a basic board game. This game is beautifully crafted while keeping the gameplay of monopoly the same classic version it has always been.

Final Words

The artwork of the game is 100% the best part of the set. Even if you do not like monopoly, the artwork by itself might convince you to give it a try. In case of Visualization & design are strong parts of your game journey- you should consider positively to buy it.
